Ramsey Officially put on the Trading Block
As has been reported everywhere (ESPN, Washington Post, and Redskins.com), the Redskins have put Patrick Ramsey on the trading block. This move has been expected for some time, as the Redskins have shown that Ramsey isn’t in their future plans. The writing has been on the wall since the Redskins drafted Jason Campbell in the 1st round in last year’s draft, and with Ramsey losing his starting job to Mark Brunell early last season, its been clear that the Redskins would be looking to move Ramsey.
What should we expect Ramsey to command on the trade market? Len Pasquerelli takes his typical anti-Redskins stance stating the Redskins waiting too long to move Ramsey and have hurt his value. Of course this neglects the fact that Ramsey was the opening week starter for the Redskins and that keeping Ramsey allowed Jason Campbell to develop without having to worry about weekly game plans. Ramsey also had a valuable relief appearance against the Giants that helped the Redskins make the playoffs. Pasquerelli’s other argument is the glut of quarterbacks who will be on the market. He lists Drew Brees, Chad Pennington and Brian Griese as examples; all players who are coming off severe injuries and who have uncertain futures.
Looking over quarterback trades made over the past 10 years shows a varied return:
Rob Johnson dealt to Buffalo from Jacksonville for a 1st round pick and a 4th round pick.
Brad Johnson traded to Washington for a 1st, 2nd (future year) and 3rd round pick.
Drew Bledsoe dealt from New England to Buffalo for a 1st round pick.
Trent Green to Kansas City with a 5th round pick for a 1st round pick.
AJ Feely dealt from Philly to Miami for a 2nd round pick.
Looking at those trades, it’s hard to believe the Skins would move Ramsey for the rumored 4th round pick. Can a team like the Jets really feel happy signing an injured QB when they could have a healthy Ramsey to lead their team?
So what do you expect the Redskins will get for Ramsey?

They need to get a late first or early second for Ramsey. The same that he was drafted. That was a huge pass he completed against the Giants. I still feel that Brunell may be done, so without a high return, Ramsey stays.

Get rid of Brunell. Try to pick up a high draft choice and pick tight end Davis out of MD. get rid of Royal

Wow… get rid of Royal and pick up Vernon Davis???? wow that would be great, but reality says that we don’t have a 1st round pick and we pick in the 2nd where there would still be some good talent by selecting a pass rush DE and WR in the 3rd. I believe the good reciever will be gone by the end of the 1st round so we can say bye bye to Santana’s brother because he will be gone by the 12 pick in the 1st round.
Hopefully the Redskins will be able to free up some cap space and get a quality DE. That’s really what were lacking. If we cut Taylor Jacobs and James Thrash we can still get a speedy reciever through free agency to complement Moss and Patton. I hope Antonio Brown is working on his speed and catching ability because dude has the speed but lacks the confidence. I just hope he was/is working hard in the offseason to improve.
We also need more O-line help. I don’t care what anybody says but OT Chris Samuels needs very much to work on his foot work this offseason. I know that linemen get beat every now and then and usually get beat on the blitzes once in a while, but his foot work needs work. Please Bugel, if your reading this blog… take Chris by the hand and go to a balae’ so he can get those feet right.

A first for Ramsey? The only GM dumb enough to make that deal is Cerrato. I think we’re lucky if we get a fourth.
We are not coming from a position of strength here. Campbell will be the starter or the number two — there is no way he’s the number three. Same goes for Brunell. Ramsey has been a good soldier so far, but he won’t be anymore — would you? Heck, I wouldn’t even report. No, we pretty much have to trade him.
And that’s fine. Ramsey’s flaws are so obvious every time he drops back. He has no poise or pocket presence, can’t throw with any touch, and for a guy with a huge arm, he throws a terrible deep ball. The book on him has always been the same: blitz him and he will make a bad decision.

Kyle brings up a good point. The Redskins could hold on to Ramsey until training camps start and wait until someone goes down or a team like the Bills decide they need to find a new QB, but I think Gibbs and crew made an agreement with Ramsey that they wouldn’t screw him over in return for him accepting the situation last year.

we aren’t going to compromise for ramsey, it’s simple supply-side economics. There is a demand for healthy quarterbacks and we have 3 of them. If we dont like the offer, Ramsey will still be a skin. AND, Vernon Davis?!?!?! with all of our cap issues, his estimated top 10 draft status and our TEs performance last year; please pull your head out of your ass. Royal is fine.
