So we’ve established that this preseason sucks. The Redskins’ star running back is hurt, their best corner-back is hurt, one of the potential starters at OLB got hurt and was released and a few depth players have also gone down. The team has been pretty well hammered in every preseason game they’ve played so far and even the starters have looked like complete garbage. And you know what, it just doesn’t matter.
The big injuries aren’t that serious; Portis is expected back for the opener and Springs could play in week one but he’ll be back soon enough. But more importantly, preseason games don’t count. The Colts were 0-5 last year in the preseason and then they won a zillion straight games to start the year. The Chiefs were also win-less last preseason, and they turned out to be a decent team. The Steelers have yet to win this year either, somehow I doubt they are going to go 0-16 this year.
So take that deep breath. Obviously we’d all prefer that the Redskins would show some signs of life to give us a bit of confidence that this is going to be their year, but if the Redskins win week one against the Vikings, all these preseason blowouts will be long forgotten. The season doesn’t start for a few more weeks, save your stress for then.
EDIT: Al Saunders (obviously a genius) agrees with me.
