Live Blog: Redskins vs Ravens 8/31
So its the final week of the preseason and the Redskins are still looking for their final win. Its Washington vs Baltimore tonight live from FedEx Field. I’m listening along on XXX Espn Radio and figured eh.. why don’t we blog along. So I present without further ado, here is the 1st ever live blog entry on The Redskin Report, which by the way is the 4th most popular Redskins fan site on the internet (out of the 4 chosen by Sports Illustrated, 3% baby).
Read on to see my semi-interesting thoughts on the game:
7:34pm: The preseason is the only time that I listen to the Redskins radio crew and I have to say, they are pretty awful. I know its sacrilegious to rip on Sonny and Sam, but its like listening to some drunk uncle scream at the TV sometime.
7:38pm: Wonder if they could possibly fit anymore commericals into this pregame show? They talk for 2 minutes and then go to 3 minutes of commercials. These guys seem a bit fired up too, relax boys, its just preseason.
8:04pm: Lost the toss… damn!
7:42pm: Randy Thomas and Chris Samuels are out for the game. Doubt we’ll see much of Mark Brunell with the 2/5ths of the line missing.
7:52pm: I’m not sure if I can tell the difference between Sonny and Sam yet, hopefully I’ll catch on. Sam (I think) is screaming about the Redskins needed to get into a groove. Sonny agrees, Larry Michael is telling everyone to stay calm. Sonny actually seems pretty coherent to this point, Sam is fired up.
7:59pm: More commercials. I love these XXX ESPN radio voice people, the robot girl voice and the guy who sounds like a cartoon character, very impressive choices.
8:05pm: Lost the toss, Ravens will receive. Frost kicks off down to the 1, so that’s ok. The new dood, Vernon Fox, makes the tackle, some special team ace I guess.
8:09pm: Three and out. Espy on the return. Lots of love on the radio for the punt. I can just imagine who exciting this is to read
8:11pm: Oh noes…… three and out….. Fire Saunders.
8:16pm: It appears that no one is playing, no Lemar Marshall, no Marcus Washington, no Andre Carter. The Ravens are going for a 49 yard FG, no good. Flag on the play. Sam/Sonny have made the same joke twice about Sam Cook being a singer. And the Ravens make the 4th and short.
8:27pm: Touchdown Ravens. Sonny doesn’t care for Archuleta, always pointing him out whenever the Ravens make a reception. I’m listening on the radio, so I’m just going to assume they are right and Archuleta screwed up. At least he can be comforted by his really hot girlfriend.
8:32pm: Brunell still in, 1st complete pass to Brandon Lloyd. The Redskins are actually driving, this is kinda startling.
8:38pm: Ah forget I said anything, Cooley drops a pass and the Redskins punt. Frost slams it into the endzone, atta boy Derrick.
8:45pm: Campbell’s in now. Completed his 1st pass.
8:50pm: Rock Cartwright was stuffed on a 4th and short. Remember back in the Spurrier days when Rock was something like 10 for 10 on 4th downs, yeah, he shoulda never slimmed down.
8:55pm: Contest entries so far: three including me. So far those two other guys have 50% odds of getting a free jersey. Go sign up you slackers. I’m putting up a prize and everything. Click here for details.
9:04pm: Punting bonanza!!!!! This Sam Cook guy appears to be the nice Rodney Williams (or was it Reggie), that guy from the Giants who can kick it about 70 yards everytime.
9:06pm: I’m quitting at halftime. This is a snoozer of a game. I tried my best.
9:09pm: They are riding on Duckett’s blocking or lack there of, that’s a bad sign. He hasn’t impressed at all since coming here.
9:14pm: Play under review. Redskins recovered a football, Archuleta forced it.
9:15pm: Play stands, Ravens keep the ball. My radio peeps aren’t happy with this call. Damn biased refs.
9:19pm: Another Ravens touchdown. Preseason blows. Some rook got it, the radio boys aren’t pleased. Lets see if Campbell can lead a decent 2 min drill.
9:29pm: No he can’t. Boring freaking half. I’m done. Have a good one.
Aftermath: Skins lose again, but the good news is that there were no injuries. It appears that Todd Collins has won the back up job with his stellar performance last night. Bring on the Vikings.
