Some random facts about the Dallas Cowboys:
- They are ‘this’ close the have a QB controversy. For some odd reason Cowboy fans are hoping to see Tony Romo replace Drew Bledsoe at QB. Bledsoe is no great shakes, but Romo has yet to throw an NFL pass in his 3 years in the league and isn’t exactly a future superstar. (As an aside, over the last five year’s Bledsoe is 32-33 as a starting QB, Mark Brunell is 19-26.)
- Despite their fan’s insistence that all was well, their offensive line still stinks. You may have missed it a few weeks back when a Cowboy fan told me I was idiot and their offensive line was much improved. But after week one, I’m feeling pretty ok with my assessment. The Cowboys gave up two sacks against Jacksonville and looked pretty weak most of the game.
- Much like the Redskins, their defense couldn’t get off the field against an ‘average’ offense. Time of possession in week one: Jacksonville 34:12, Dallas 25:28. The Jaguars nickled and dimed their way down the field last week and they didn’t have any big plays (on offense). Luckily for Redskins fans Mark Brunell’s middle name is nickle and dime.
- They’ll run a trick play or two this week. Ever since Bill Parcells started coaching the Cowboys they’ve used trick plays to score on the Redskins nearly every game. Whether its a flea flicker or a half-back pass, the Redskins defense has got to ready for it.
- They have Terrell Owens on their team. Just in case you missed the 1st five billion times it was talked about.
speaking of TO, who is going to cover him? rogers? that seems like a nightmare match-up. I hope we are smart enough to make taylor his shadow on sunday.
That’s a good question. Unlike the Vikings, the Cowboys have good receivers. If they use Rogers and Taylor to double Owens, they’re left with Rumph or Wright to cover Terry Glenn, which scares the hell out of me too. We need someone to come up with a big game in secondary and to get some serious pressure on Bledsoe.
