Struggling Opponents Give Hope
A few weeks back a Redskin fan had to wonder if their team would win another game this year. The upcoming schedule was full of solid playoff contenders. What a difference a few weeks can make.
Suddenly the remaining games don’t seem that tough. This week’s opponent, the Atlanta Falcons, have dropped three straight. Next week the Redskins battle an Eagles’ team that will struggle to win without Donovan McNabb. Later in the year, the Skins play a St.Louis team that has lost 4 of its last 5 games and the Redskins close the year against the Giants, who’ve lost 3 consecutive games. Only the New Orleans Saints are keeping up with their surprising early season success and looking like a sure-fire playoff team.
The Redskins need to run the table to have any hope at a playoff berth. While that is still a very remote possibility, in the weak NFC it does look like 9-7 will be enough to make the playoffs. But with the majority of their remaining opponent’s crumbling, the dream isn’t dead quite yet. The Redskins playoff hopes are best summed up by the cinematic masterpiece Dumb and Dumber:
Lloyd Christmas: What are the chances of a guy like you and a girl like me…ending up together?
Mary Swanson: Not good.
Lloyd Christmas: You mean not good like one out of a hundred?
Mary Swanson: I’d say more like one in a million.
[a long sad pause]
Lloyd Christmas: So you’re telling me there’s a chance? Yeah! I read ya.

It’s possible, but they need to take everything week to week. According to the Redskins.com site, a poll taken recently of how well the fans think the Skins will do in the next five games reveals that they will go 5-0. Make me proud.

Heck, right now, I’m willing to settle for 8-8, if it came to that. Although 9-7 would be wonderful, 9-8 would be sweeter…. and 10-8, sweeter still… and 11-8… or (gasp) 12-7. It would only take an 9 game winning streak to finish the season….
Yeah, right. I’d still be VERY happy to see them get to 8-8.

Any comments on Gibb’s, I’m taking back the team speech? Read a couple of articles that he has sat people down and has gotten downright mad looking at film. He is here for the duration and is going to finish what he started, establishing Redskin football.
Any thoughts?
