Your weekly notes from the NFL media releases:

  • Commentators: Sam Rosen and Tim Green. Its the same crew as last week minus Jay Glazer on the field.
  • Game Time: 1pm on Fox. The game is available locally from the DC market south to northern Florida. Broadcast map here.
  • Last match-up: Sept 14, 2003- Redskins 33 Falcons 31. This was the game of Patrick Ramsey’s Redskins career as he completed 25 of 39 passes for 356 yards and 2 touchdowns.
  • Last match-up in Washington: Sept 25, 1994 – Falcons 27 Redskins 20. This was so long ago that Jeff George was the big star of the game for Atlanta.
  • The Falcons are the only team with two players with over 850 yards rushing (Vick 870 and Dunn 865).
  • Vick needs 99 rushing yards to tie the all-time mark for rushing yards in a season by a quarterback. The record is currently held by Bobby Douglas (1972).
  • Andre Carter hasn’t done much this year, but neither does the other DE the Redskins tried to get last year. John Abraham has only 3 sacks on the season.
  • Jason Campbell became the 4th player in NFL in history with 2 TD passes in his 1st two games.
  • Stat that could earn Ladell Betts big dollars this off-season: In 8 career games with more than 15 carries, he’s averaged 96.1 rushing yards.
  • Marcus Washington has had a sack in both career games against Atlanta.

  • On the Cambell tidbit…

I saw that stat, and my jaw nearly hit the floor, because 3 of the 4 QBs were REDSKINS.

Mark Rypien, Gus Ferrotte, and Jason Cambell.

Ryp earned a Superbowl, and played VERY well, though not long (his son was responsible for a lot of that).

Ferrotte was… Gus. Lift us up, let us down, a living symptom of how tantalizing Washington was for a long time, even while be mediocre.

And now Jason is… ???? Jury is still out. Now, if he throws 2 TDs this week (hopefully in a winning effort)….

  • Yeah, its seemed weird to me. My first thought was that someone must have thrown 3 and 2 or something of that sort.
