FYI: Giants at Redskins
This season sucked, but in a few weeks we’ll all be yearning for some Redskins football. Now this is a division game and we all know all about the Giants, so we’ll skip the usual fun facts and just make fun of them instead.
- How’s that Eli Manning trade working out for them? The trade works out to be Manning for Phillip Rivers, Shawne Merriman, Nate Kaeding and Roman Oben. Pretty much everyone would take Rivers over Manning at this point and if you add in a complete beast in Merriman and a Pro Bowl kicker in Kaeding, that’s about as lobsiding of a trade as you’re going to find.
- Is it just me or has Tiki Barber’s chances of becoming a big TV guy fallen substantially over the past 12 months? He’s gone from being a universally respected player to a selfish, whiny guy. I’d bet money that he’s the next NFLer to show up on Dancing with the Stars. Its a slam dunk.
- Giant fans love to rag on Luke Petitgout and with good reason, the guy is a false start machine. But after he went down with an injury earlier this year, Petitgout was replaced by 96 year old Bob Whitfield at left tackle. To say Whitfield has been awful is an understatement. If he isn’t getting beat by his man, he’s picking up holding penalties or, more likely, dropping head-butts on people. Can’t blame him for the headbutts though, if I had a melon that big I’d be blasting guys with it every chance I got.
- Hard to believe that Tommy Coughlin’s tenure in New York is probably over if the Giants lose Saturday. Who’d have possibly thought that his act would run tired after only two year? But at least he instilled some good ole fashioned discipline in the Giants. Oh wait, they rank 2nd worst in penalties last year and rank 6th worst this year? Never mind then.
- Has there ever been a more hilarious move than Coughlin demoted his OC before the last game of the season when the team still has a shot at the playoffs? And if you are going to change your playcaller this late in the year, you might want to find someone who’s a little better at it than Kevin Gilbride. Gilbride is the Giants QB coach, the same guy who’s responsible for that outstanding development of Eli Manning. That is one hell of a move there.
You know what’s really sad though. The fact that despite all their dopey moves and pitiful play the Giants have a decent shot at making the playoffs and the Redskins don’t. Its enough to make you sick, but I’m going to stay in my happy place and not talk about that right now.
Also, if any Redskins read this, you owe us about 10 after this year. So do all us Redskins fans a favor and knock the Giants out for us. Thanks.

I think a more hilarious move is when Snyder fired his head coach with three games left, when the Redskins still had a chance at the playoffs. I’m usually pretty forgiving of Snyder, but that was a dumb decision, that even he admits was boneheaded.

Yeah, I was going to mention that. But I was trying to keep the Redskins bashing to a minimum in the post. Although making a move in the last week of the year is a much more desperate looking move, obviously changing head coaches is a bigger change.

Isn’t it amazing how many people make a living analyzing the Redskins but they have never played or coached professional football. Gibbs, Williams, Saunders analyze every team they play so they know what the problems are. They just have to fix them. Dan Snyder is attacked by Doc Walker and so many ex players but while in his 30’s he bought the Redskins for +/- $800MM. He didn’t win the lottery or inherit his financial strength, he earned it and yet these imbeciles say he doesn’t know how to run a professional football team. The Queen Mary cost $800MM to build and it took governments to pay for it. That was five years after Dan Snyder bought the Redskins for the same price! These same know-it-alls probably sell their tickets to stub hub or ebay and fill the stadium with Cowboy, Eagle, Giant drunks who taunt the regular, loyal Redskin ticketholders so they can’t take their kids to see their home team for fear of the fighting, cursing and sexual displays like mooning and streaking. Get on the bandwagon. Give these guys the respect that they deserve. Football is a competitive sport and entertainment. The other teams are capable of winning just as we are and some times we will lose more often then we win. But, not in the long run because our owner wants a winner and is willing to pay the price to get one. I have been a Redskin fan since 1945. I have seen Sammy Baugh, Sonny, Billy and Joe T. I have also watched Harry Teofilides and John the Tree Adams. I have never booed my team even though I have gotten angry, cried, and cursed as well. Give these guys a break- support them-love them cause they are OUR Redskins!
