For those of you who love the training camp dark horses today is your day. The Redskins signed 16 guys who are all long shots to make the roster. So who out of this list has a chance?
Players signed: OL Kili Lefotu, WR Steven Harris, WR Ryan Hoag, LB Anthony Trucks (that’s a solid name for a football player), DT Lorenzo Alexander, DT Vaka Manapuna, OL Calvin Armstrong, DE Jamaal Green, QB Casey Bramlet, WR Cedric Bonner, DT Jared Clauss, DB Jerrell Pippens, DB Chip Cox, TE Eric Edwards, OLWilliam Whitticker and DE Chris Wilson.
Kili Lefotu is a resign, as I believe Lorenzo Alexander was, as well, and possibly Chris Wilson. Lefotu was in training camp this past offseason and IIRC was a favorite of Sonny Jurgenson when he was commenting on the young bubble linemen; they must have liked something about him, as I seem to recall he was one of the last OL cut. That’s an interesting comment on the possible mindset of the front office going into Free Agency; they would rather go with known players in at least a few cases, which bodes well for the team trying to keep all of the free agents, and build continuity instead of seeking a “quick fix” via high priced Rent-A-Players.
These are not Nobodies, they are players that the Redskins think can play or why bother with signing them. As for last year maybe their were too many Sombodies playing instead of some Nobodies that wanted to put forth an effort and win.
Mike – your comment got stuck in the spam filter, which is why it was delayed in showing.
I don’t too many of these guys will make it out of training camp, but it would be nice to find a diamond in the rough.
Bill you are right about a lot of them being re-signed. Lefotu was in camp last year like you mentioned, he was a late round pick. Harris, Hoag, Trucks, Alexander, Manupuna, Armstrong and Green were all on the practice squad at one point or another during the year.
I know Bramlett was in camp last year as well, although his chances are pretty remote unless Brunell just can’t comeback from his shoulder surgery.
