Mock Draft Round-up
A lot has changed since we first looked at the who the mock drafts thought the Redskins would take. Alan Branch has fallen way down on draft boards (two broken legs will do that to you) and Amobi Okoye has moved way up. Most talk has the Redskins looking to move down from number six and stockpile extra picks, but that’s basically every team’s plan on draft day and it rarely comes to fruition. One thing that scares me is that when the Redskins make up their mind on something, they tend to make sure it happens, even if it means getting lesser value than expected. I don’t want to hear about the Skins dropping 20 spots and just picking up a 4th pick to do it.
Onto the mocks:
- CBS Sportsline: Amobi Okoye, DT, Louisville. “Regardless of if the team remains here or trades down, Okoye has the upside to warrant taking this high.”
- ESPN (Insider): Amobi Okoye, DT, Louisville. “The 19-year-old has bulked up to 300-plus pounds and ran the 40 in the 4.8-second range at an on-campus workout.”
- Fox Sports: Amobi Okoye, DT, Louisville. “Only 19 years old and with tremendous upside, he would provide a much-needed infusion of youth on the team’s line.”
- NFL Draft Countdown: Amobi Okoye, DT, Louisville: “The NFL Draft has never seen a prospect like Amobi Okoye, who played in college as a 16-year-old true freshman and as a result will still only be a 20-year-old rookie next fall despite having four years of Division I experience. A 3-technique a la Warren Sapp, Okoye would give the Washington defensive line the impact playmaker that they need.”
Hmmm, its a consensus. Coming up later this week, a closer look at Okoye (unless the Redskins trade down before the draft) and then Friday and Saturday we’ll be around looking at rumors and all the draft fun.
