  • Ok, Landry and Blades are decent picks, Sartz is somewhat scary because of his history of injuries, and concern over whether or not he’s recovered from his past.

Palmer and Ecker are probably wasted picks; Palmer MAY make the squad, but it’s not a particularly high probability. Ecker would have been available as a Free Agent, and he’s a special teamer at best (or at least, if the initial assessments of him hold true, we’re in trouble if he is our first or second TE).

We didn’t address the DL or the OL at all, which is where our biggest needs were. We picked up a bookend for Sean Taylor, which is a huge gamble; we could truly regret that, or it might be the greatest bold stroke ever, if these guys can take turns playing the system and being the killer. I see a lot of penalties on our Safeties coming up, though.

No one screams “great pick” out of this mix, at all… no Gems in the Rough, ala Cedric Golstone last year, either; Sartz is that pick this year, and we won’t know for sure on him for quite a while. Blades is DEPTH, but he might still be able to push into being a part time starter, which is sad.

All in all, D… maybe D- for the draft. If Sartz stays healthy, and performs, raise it to a C-, because they didn’t take where they have need, and there honestly aren’t any good options for DL help in the FA market. If the huge gamble with the Taylor/Landry combination works out, B. But I think it’s not going to work. :( They did keep all of next year’s picks, though. Somehow, I’m seeing another top 10 pick next year.

  • I don’t get why we didn’t get Guys on the the defensive line. A lot are getting old and Andre Carter won’t be here forever. The useful picks were Landry and Blades. The rest should’ve been defensive linemen. That or we shoulda traded our pick to the Dolphins because they coulda gotten Adrian Peterson or change their mind and get Brady Quinn. I like pie.

  • Tab, I wouldn’t say Sartz is not a userful pick; he’s a RISKY pick. He has the potential to be the BEST pick of the draft for us (especially relative to where we took him) though not necessarily a better player than Landry; it’s more his history of injuries (specifically, he had a VERY bad injury a season ago) He did play well last year coming back from it, but the injury he has is one that is difficult to ever fully recover from. He probably would have been a low 2nd rounder/high 3rd if he’d never been injured; we got him at 5.
