Redskins add Blaylock

The Redskins have signed RB Derrick Blaylock to a contract after watching compete in the rookie camp this weekend. Blaylock is a former Chief and Jet and has a 500 yard season in his resume. He’ll end up battling with Rock Cartwright for the 3rd RB/kickoff returner role. You’d suspect Rock would have the edge since he has a full season of experience under his belt as a returner and is a solid contributor on kickoff coverage as well.

If Blaylock can’t beat out Cartwright, he’ll battle with Kerry Carter for the TJ Duckett memorial insurance policy running back spot. Either way, its a nice signing. He’s had success in this offense before and if Portis or Betts gets hurt during the year they won’t have to give up a draft pick to trade for some useless tool to come in a sit on the bench. Baby steps.
