Justin Skaggs 1979-2007
Justin Skaggs, a former Redskin player and current Arena Football player, died over the weekend after being diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. He leaves behind two young children and a wife.
I’m sure a lot of people reading this won’t even remember Skaggs, but he was one of those guys who caught everyone’s eyes at training camp. He worked and hustled like crazy and earned a bunch of fans despite only playing in one regular season game with the team.
I offer my condolences to his family and friends. The Redskins have released a statement as well.

Anybody who needs to know what kind of man Justin Skaggs was needs only to look at one play. I wish somebody could track down the film of this.
Pre-season game against Kansas City. Skins QB throws an interception that a KC defensive back is taking 90 yards to the house. When everyone else has given up, Skaggs comes in from another time zone and nails the guy right at the goal line. I couldn’t believe my eyes; it’s one of the greatest hustle plays I’ve ever seen.
The game’s lost already, and it’s pre-season anyway. Other players have given up. But he didn’t. If there’s a way to find that play and put it up, it’d be worth it. Inspiring stuff.
