Deep Breaths People – Todd Wade/Shawn Springs

For reasons that don’t quite make sense to me there has been a lot of anger in the Redskins fan base this week over the right tackle and cornerback situations. Both were clarified yesterday by Joe Gibbs and everyone should be able to relax.

Todd Wade will start at Right Tackle replacing the injured Jon Jansen. There was some mini-outrage over the fact that the coaching staff was looking Stephon Heyer at the position. Call me crazy, but if a guy plays a decent game at the position in relief doesn’t he at least deserve a bit of consideration? In the end Wade is the safer choice and the least likely guy to completely destruct under pressure and is, at least in my opinion, the right choice. But actually taking a day to think about a decision isn’t the end of the world people.

The other controversy of the week involves the cornerback situation, in particular why Shawn Springs was used as the nickel back. The coaching staff and trainers said Springs was held back due to injury concerns while Springs maintained he was fine. It turns out Springs had tweak a hamstring and because of his injury plagued past they decided to limit his action. A perfectly reasonable explanation if I do say so myself. Springs came off a chump over this, first debating his injury and then giving the old ‘I’m not unhappy because of my pay cheque’ nonsense. But as long as he remains the best corner on the roster, he can make all the money comments he wants.
