Randy Thomas updates

One thing that a few folks have noticed about my comments (except when I go off on a tangent) is that I tend to look ahead…  for example, even during the Preseason this year, I was looking at the ‘08 prospects, based on our players.  So it won’t come as too big of a surprise to know that I’ve been asking around as much as possible about Randy Thomas’s status (and no, it’s all second hand; I’ve asked Washington Post writers, Washington Times writers, Virginian-Pilot writers, etc.)  Early, right after Thomas’s injury, everything I found out was already in print, everywhere.  No need to report that, right?

In the last week, however, I noticed an “anniversary” (5 weeks into the originally projected 10 week minimum recovery).  So I started asking again.  Of course, I wasn’t the only one asking (remember, this is all from reporters who report on the Redskins anyway; most of it just didn’t get to print).  However, here’s the news:

The Redskins ARE projecting Thomas will be back, but not quite as early as hoped.  Joe Bugel made a statement last week that regardless of any other injuries to the Offensive Line, the Redskins would continue to keep Thomas off the Injured Reserve because of what he will mean to the Redskins during the December-January time frame.   However, I’ve now been told that Thomas is 7 weeks out, still.  That means Thursday, 12/6 (against Chicago) or Sunday, 12/16 against the Giants.  Presumably, he’ll be available for the Vikings and Cowboys as well, and any potential playoff games.

I can’t believe, though, that Thomas will play on the short week against Chicago; if he’s really that close at that point, you have to believe they might try to ease him in against Buffalo, if they thought he’d be able to play then.  Therefore, Redskins fans, circle 12/16, at the Meadowlands, for the return of Randy Thomas…. at least the way it’s looking today.
