After 11 Games, Redskins still a Mystery

By this point in a season, you’d expect to have a good feel for a football team. Most teams have played 11 games, and you’d expect trends to be established and have a good feel for what will happen the rest of the way. But the Redskins remain a mystery, at times they look to be a good team, capable of beating the best the NFC has to offer and at other times they look completely terrible.

Even when you break the team down to individual components, the only consistency is the inconsistency. At the start of the year the Redskins were a defensive juggernaut, teams couldn’t move the ball at all and the pass rush was tremendous. However, the past few weeks the defense looked horrendous, giving up big play after big play. Then yesterday, the defense was back on stride with three sacks and limited Tampa Bay to minimal yardage and points despite having the offense turnover the ball approximately 97 times. Are they any good? When completely healthy, they are pretty good, not great, but above average. Yesterday, they just ran into a completely over-rated Tampa offense that spends half its time playing against pitiful defenses and were able to completely overwhelm them.

Offensively is more of the same. At times they can run the ball, the last few weeks they’ve proven they can pass, but they turn over the ball at an alarming rate. Jason Campbell looks like a keeper, but he’s also a young QB who’s learning on the job and will make mistakes like he did late yesterday. Can the Redskins rely on their offense to put up 20+ points every week going forward? Doubtful, they can move the ball but are likely to throw up a stinker now and then. Let’s just hope that Gibbs doesn’t pull in the reigns and go back to 70-30 run/pass percentage due to the turnovers yesterday. Most of them were on short, safe plays and the Redskins can’t go back to their score 17 points and pray the defense can get the job done ways if they want to make any noise this season.

Two years ago at this point, I wrote the team off as not being good enough to make the playoffs. They were slumping and looked pretty much toasted in terms of making the playoffs. But the schedule was nice to them and they played a weak Arizona team the next week. The Redskins didn’t play very well, but managed to win which helped build confidence for the big five game winning streak that propelled them to the playoffs. With a weak Buffalo team ahead on the schedule, I’m not going to make the same mistake. In a weak NFC, 9-7 will make the playoffs. The Redskins aren’t done yet, although this week’s game has now officially been upgraded to a must-win if they playoffs are in their future.

  • Sean Taylor was a nice guy he would tap u on the shoulder when u were down.He was always at the field before anybody else runnin and streching.Sean Taylor came around as a good father, teammate, and brother. When Sean got his baby it seemed like he turned his life around because he use to walk into the locker room and just take his stuff slip on his clothes and leave, but when he got the baby he would walk up to u an say how do u always have a smile on ur face. I say how do u hit so hard and get too practice and r un before anybody the coaches anybody is there. I’am not part of the redskins but i know this from my older friend Cliton Portis who was his teammate in collage and now. The Redskins were going to draft Kellen Winslow but Cliton Portis said you can never get rid of a Sean Taylor but now he is not here to play on the beautiful turf.It did not have to go down like this because he was tring to strahgtein out his life for his Daughter who was only 18months-years old no wshe will grow uwithout a father who cared about her.He was a good player.
