Sean Taylor’s Big Crime Was Having Money
So when can we expect Michael Wilbon, Len Shapiro and Colin Cowherd apologize for their stupid comments following Taylor’s death? Essentially they said Taylor’s death was his own fault for living a thug lifestyle and these if you hang with tough circles, these things are bound to happen. As the facts begin to flow out about the case and Taylor, we’re slowly learning that it was the fact that he was rich that caused his death. Some lowlifes decided to try to rob Taylor thinking he’d be out of town and ending up shooting him.
I doubt we’ll hear any of them apologize any time soon, but hopefully in the future they’ll let the facts come out before bashing the deceased. Taylor died trying to protect his family and should be remembered that way, its too bad some people sullied his reputation before knowing the true story.
For more on Taylor’s life, Elizabeth Merrill on ESPN.com had a very good story that may have been missed by some with the news of the arrests pushing it down the page. Its worth a read.
Also Jason Cole at Yahoo Sports brings up the racial overtones of the coverage.

If Wilbon had taken to time to read the paper he works for, he would have seen past articles where:
1. the prosecutor in the felony case said that they did not have evidence of Sean having a gun and that’s why the charges were reduced. He went to the place where he thought his stolen ATV was - the same thing 2 DC police officers did a few months ago when they ended up killing a teen;
2. the judge in the DWI case said there was no probable cause to arrest Mr. Taylor when those charges were thrown out.
In all the reporting, I have seen a lot of hyperbole, but no facts to support the allegation that this man was some type of gangsta thug. Wilbon’s article said that Sean couldn’t leave the gangsta neighborhood alone - he paid $900k for his home. Does the neighborhood become thuggish by virtue of the fact that a black person moves in?
He owes DC, Redskins fans, and most importantly - Mr. Taylor’s family an apology.
I’m thinking of writing the ombudsman to complain.
