Redskins Stay Alive, Lose Campbell

Shawn Springs returns an interception

The Washington Redskins managed to stay alive with a 24-16 victory Thursday night over the Chicago Bears. Back-up quarterback Todd Collins relieved an injured Jason Campbell and was very good, going 15-20 for 224 yards and two touchdowns. The Redskins run game continued to struggle amassing only 31 yards in the victory.

Redskins touchdowns were scored by Todd Yoder, a returning Mike Sellers and Ladell Betts. Shaun Suisham added a field goal. Defensively Shawn Springs was a game time decision, but starred with two interceptions including a huge one late in the 2nd quarter which led to the Redskins 1st touchdown.

Campbell has been diagnosed with a dislocated patella tendon and one would expect he’s done for the year.

The Redskins now have 10 days off to rest and recover from a very emotional and physically draining couple of weeks.

  • Its real simple. Leaders win in Gibbs teams. Its amazing how someone can come in and make reads and find an open guy. I’ve said it before, Campbell may be atheletic and can throw the ball, but he doesn’t put them where they can make a difference. Lead the team Collins.

  • I agree with Riggos’ assessment of the situation one hundred percent….Jason Campbell has a great arm but can not put the ball where it is need…..IN THE END ZONE…..
    LEAD ON TODD COLLINS….

  • maybe Collins should have had a chance to start when he first came here. i always thoght he looked the best in pre season between the 3 they have. this would have saved us the misery of Brunell.

  • Collins can do it and in this stage of Campbell maturation it would be good for him to watch the rest of the season and observe Collins reads. In no way is Campbell not our starter next season. And yes! he’s the QB of our future.

  • And after this weekend’s games, the Redskins are back in control of their own destiny; win out, and they write their own ticket to the (second) NFC Wildcard spot.

Of course, Minnesota’s in the same position, and doesn’t need to win out; they just have to beat the Redskins and win one other game. Suddenly, the Redskins are where they were two seasons ago; every game is a playoff game.

  • Bill, unfortunately the Redskins are not completely in control of their own destiny yet. New Orleans will have the same record if they also win out, and they would win the tiebreaker because they would have a better conference record. So basically everyone root for the Falcons tonight!!!

  • Yeah, Joe, I caught that, but only after I’d posted. However, the chance of EITHER team winning out isn’t particularly high; Minnesota is in the driver’s seat for the final wildcard spot, to be honest. I’d simply missed that New Orleans hadn’t played yet this week.
