Pigskin Pick’em Weekly update for week 15
Welcome back, Pigskin Pickers, to Week 15. This week was one of those weeks where many in Redskin Nation were biting their fingernails, all set to say “Here we go again”, until we finally finished a game, and put away a team. It’s been a while since we’ve had that kind of emotional lift in this tumultuous season. This week was a middling week for most of the pickers, though, with most players scoring 10 wins.
Lets start off with the standard; this week, our intrepid host, Lee Gibbons, is the Weekly Kudos winner, with his 13 week pick; that stood out above the pack. Kudos, Lee!
I’ve broken with tradition in the past on the Upset Pick of the Week Kudos. Traditionally, I’ve chosen games that had a combination of two factors: few folks picked it, and it was, at least nominally, a true upset. This week, there are a quartet of games to choose from right off the top; however, that’s too many. Ultimately, I have to throw away the Dallas-Philly game (no one picked it anyway), as well as the Carolina-Seattle game (one person picked it, but he went home for everyone; we’ll come back to him regardless). That leaves the OTHER two games…. Jacksonville-Pittsburgh and Baltimore-Miami. I’m so tempted to do both, but that’s a cop out… so the Upset of the Week is Baltimore-Miami… most folks had Miami figured as an “0″fer team, the first team to ever pull both types of perfect seasons, but they pulled out a dramatic win in Overtime to defeat the Ravens. Kudos for making the pick to Lee Gibbons and P. Pottberg (yeah, he went home teams this week, but he DID play); Lee would have gotten his name called on 2 of the games, as would Mr. Pottberg.
With 10 wins, A. Fishman didn’t exactly light it up; however, none of his closest competition did, either. While a few folks climbed up a game or three, he maintained his 4 game lead over his closest competition, but stayed 6 games over someone actually could win; it did tighten up a bit below that. Season Props, regardless, still go to Mr. A. Fishman. I’m not sure he’s clinched a victory, but he’s going to have to seriously stumble to be caught now. However, keep in mind that last year, only a couple of folks reached the 150 win mark; this year, one player made it in week 15, and a another 8 or so have a reasonable chance of doing that in week 16; Mr. Fishman’s victory total will be a new record for victories; I guess I’ll have to keep detailed stats for year to year comparisons in future years from now on.
