Gibbs Season Ending Press Conference Notes
Jump to Comments
- Gibbs was noncommittal about coming back next year during his press conference today. He said he would discuss his future with Dan Snyder this week and come to a decision soon. Most insiders would be shocked if Gibbs left and felt his comments were more of a negotiating ploy.
- Gibbs also said that if Todd Collins is re-signed, there may be an open competition for the QB role. Collins played well to finish the year but the job should be Jason Campbell’s. Collins is a good back-up QB and if Campbell doesn’t develop, it would be nice to have Collins available to step in. One thing to keep in mind is this again could be a negotiating comment, as it might reduce the chances of getting Collins signed if he is told he has no chance to start.
- Rocky McIntosh underwent surgery and the training staff feels he should be back for the start of next season. It was originally thought that McIntosh could miss most of next year, so this is good news.
- No decision was made on where Lorenzo Alexander will play next year as of yet.
- Redskin Free Agents (in alphabetically order): Ethan Albright, Ryan Boschetti, Mark Brunell, Reche Caldwell, Rock Cartwright, Rick DeMulling, Jason Fabini, Randall Godfrey, David Macklin, Keenan McCardell, Pierson Prioleau, Mike Pucillo, Brian Kozlowski and Omar Stoutmire. I would expect the Redskins will make an effort to sign Albright, Caldwell, Cartwright and Godfrey from the above list.

I would include McCardell in the list that the Redskins will make heavy efforts to resign, although it’ll be at most a two year deal. Fabini and Prioleau will get offersheets as well, though I don’t think Fabini will be returning somehow; Prioleau probably WILL be back though, as Safety Depth is one of the areas that the Redskins are concerned about, and Prioleau knows the defense and has played fairly well in it.
In other notes, one of my primary sources for “insider” information on the Redskins, Jim Ducibella, is leaving the Virginian-Pilot down in Norfolk. I believe, but am not absolutely certain, that he’s the “Senior” beat writer for the Redskins, having covered them for the last 21 years. He’s been a valuable source for me on some of my analysis pieces, though he doesn’t always agree with me.
Oh, and I haven’t mentioned it yet, but the Redskins are looking at the possibility, in 2009, of moving Training Camp. One of the sites under consideration is literally six miles down the road from my home in Virginia Beach, Virginia, so if things work out that way, I may be able to give some comments from direct first hand knowledge starting that season. Keep your fingers crossed!
