Adios Gregg Williams, Greg Blache Promoted

Gregg Williams is officially gone from the Washington Redskins. The Redskins today released Williams from his contract and promoted Greg Blache as the defensive coordinator (technically I think he was always the defense coordinator, but now he’s running the show). Blache has been in charge of the defensive line in Washington since Gregg Williams joined the staff. Previous to joining Washington, he was defensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears.
Williams joined the Redskins days after the Redskins re-hired Joe Gibbs as head coach. Save for the 2006 season, his defenses ranged from good to great. While the Redskins offense sputtered for most of Gibbs II, the defense led the Redskins to 2 playoff appearances. Most fans had hoped Williams would be named the new head coach of the Redskins, but in the past few weeks its become clear that he was no longer in the running. Williams is rumored to be the top candidate for the Jacksonville defensive coordinator position.
The Redskins also officially fired Al Saunders today and replaced him with Jim Zorn as reported earlier.
The head coaching job is still vacant. Jim Fassel is still the likely favorite, although Jim Schwartz may still be in the running. The team is also expected to interview Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo and Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels after the Super Bowl.

Dan Snyder is a complete idiot. Can we fire him?

Bill Lazor, who has a close relationship with Jason Campbell, has also been fired in this day of long knives.

What the hell is going on? Why the hell would you hire Zorn? If you don’t even know who the coach is? What if the new coach doesn’t even want Zorn? This ain’t Dallas, and Snyder ain’t Jerry Jones (Jones actually played football). Here we go again with “starting over”. Once again we are the laughing stock of pro football.

I am a lifelong Redskins fan, born and raised here in Washington. This franchise has been nothing more than a sad, sad joke since Snyder took over. It makes me physically SICK, just looking at him now. He has single handedly screwed this up royally, and quite frankly I am growing very very tired of him. I just simply cannot stand him anymore, and have lost any respect I had for him, which wasnt much to be honest. I almost in a way hope that this whole thing blows up in his face, replete with angry fans protesting, and players asking to be traded. I cant belive that after my 36 years of supporting the Redskins, it has gotten to such a bad point, that I almost dont even care to follow the NFL anymore. If Dan Snyder had any clue, and wanted to see how a real winning organisation is run, he need look no further than in his own back yard to DC’s most successful, and winningest franchise in history, D.C. United. Shame on you Snyder!!!!!

the only way we get our team back is if Snyder is declared an enemy combatant and sent to GITMO

I guess I should go ahead and say the ultimate bad thing to say…. “I told you so”, back in the “It’s got to be Williams” comments.
Dan, I’ve NEVER bashed you for stuff before this fiasco. I’ve actually been a fan of yours, and said that you made mistakes, but it was because you cared.
No more passes. In fact, if I were a teacher grading you, you just blew the course. You should have waited at least a year to see if it would work; even ‘Bone got one year to try things, before they blew up the team and started the long rebuild. And Williams deserved his chance to show what he could do. Daniel Snyder, you have officially become an idiot. You could convince Cowher to come back and coach (well, at this point, no you couldn’t) and you would STILL be an idiot.

You were right on that one Bill. I had too much faith in Snyder. Like you I’ve always supported the guy, but he’s blown this one big time.
