Friday’s (somewhat) Fun Fact
When Jim Zorn was named head coach a few weeks back, he became the 1st Redskins head coach in over 27 years who had never coached Darrell Green. Green’s career spanned the coaching stints of Joe Gibbs (1), Richie Pettibone, Norv Turner, Marty Schottenheimer, Terry Robiskie (interim) and Steve Spurrier. Obviously he wasn’t here for Gibbs 2, but Gibbs coached him for many years.
Now that doesn’t mean there is no connection between Zorn and Green. In Green’s rookie year, the Washington Redskins faced the Jim Zorn’s Seattle Seahawks and pulled out a 27-17 victory. Green nearly picked off Zorn in the game, although Zorn did end up throwing two TD’s to Steve Largent in the loss. This was the only match-up between Zorn and Green, as Zorn’s career was winding down and he retired a few years later.
