As expected, the Redskins laid low on the opening hours of free agency, instead directing their attention towards re-signing back-up quarterback Todd Collins to a new deal.
This continues a trend established last year where the Redskins avoided the big game hunting and smartly filled positions of need. The Redskins will likely get involved in free agency in a week or two after all the initial hot free agents are off the board and a deal or two can be found.
As for Collins, he has received interested from several teams, but Washington and Jacksonville are the early favorites. He’d fill a back-up role for both teams. It may come down to money vs comfort in this decision. Jacksonville has a bunch of cap space (over 40 million according to askthecommish) and could structure a deal to pay Collins a ton of money in his first year. The Redskins would likely counter with a bigger signing bonus. A decision from Collins could come as soon as today.
