Todd Collins Re-Signs with Redskins

The first battle of free agency for the Redskins has been won. Todd Collins has decided to re-sign with Washington, agreeing to a 3 year deal worth 9 million dollars. Collins received substantial interest around the league with the Giants, Jaguars and Rams pushing the hardest to steal Collins from the Redskins. In the end, the Redskins won out as they proved willing to match other teams offers.

Collins will serve as the back-up to Jason Campbell next year. The Redskins made Collins a priority after he led the team to the playoffs last year after Campbell sustained a knee injury.

Good on Collins to get paid and good on the Redskins to bring him back. He provides a nice security blanket if something were to happen with Campbell, although I am a little weary of a potential QB controversy should Campbell get off to a slow start next season.

  • Todd Collins seems to be the “best option” back up to the Redskin’s offense. In the spirit of “maintaining continuity”, this went a long way. I think we need to see the patience level of Zorn during OTAs and training camp with Jason Campbell. There is a reason the offense functioned so efficiently, receivers were open, and the play calling opened up when Collins came in as JC went down. Trying not to read anything into this, but the question has to be asked, does Jason really have to capacity to take it all in and be execute?
