Washington Redskins Weekly Round-up
We’ve finally come down from our Ryan Boschetti high, so let’s round up the week that was:
- DJ Hackett has left Washington without accepting the Redskins contract offer. Hackett, to date the first and only free agent visitor the Redskins have had, was at Redskin Park earlier this week. Initial reports stated that Hackett had rejected the offer, but most have been changed to ‘did not accept’. I take that to mean that the offer is still on the table, but Hackett is going to see if he can find anything better elsewhere.
- The Redskins have announced the dates of mini-camp and OTA’s. Mini-camp will be held on May 2-4, while OTA’s will be on May 5-7, June 2-5 and June 9-12. If memory serves, the Redskins get one additional OTA session this year as they hired a new head coach. These sessions are not open to the public.
- My nemesis Mark Brunell just will not die. Brunell has signed with the New Orleans Saints to act as the back-up to Drew Brees. Brunell spent three amazingly mediocre seasons as the starting QB in Washington. He did have a pretty decent stretch late in the 2005 season that helped propel the Redskins to playoffs, but suffered an injury in the 3rd last game of the season and was completely ineffective during the post-season. Brunell was supplanted by Jason Campbell as the starting QB during the 2006 seasons and then lost his job as the back-up in Washington to Todd Collins last pre-season and his contract was voided a few weeks back.
- On the blogging front, Hog Haven comments on the off-season inactivity, Hog Heaven talks about the Rock Cartwright signing, Maroon & Black uses big words to discuss mini-camp and the pending debut of ZORN! , the Washington Times blog talks to Redskin free agent Pierson Prioleau, and Riggo’s Rag misses the old Dan Snyder
Next week on The Redskin Report, we’ll start running down the current Redskins depth chart position by position. I had planned this for later in the off-season, but it’s becoming apparent that nothing much is going to happen until the draft, so we will start on Monday.
