Hackett says “No” and Espy is told “Go”

The only FA targeted by the Redskins, DJ Hackett, has signed with the Panthers for a very matchable 2 year, $3.5mil contract; obviously, the Redskins are serious about the commitment to financial stability if he quickly signed with the
Panthers for that. I haven’t found what the Redskin’s offer to Hackett was, but it was obviously much less.
In other news, at the same time as we lose out on one receiver Redskin nation was eyeing, we’ve told another Redskin Nation Fan Favorite to hit the road. The Redskin’s official site is reporting that Wunderkind Practice Squad WR Mike Espy has been released. That’s a bit of a shocker, as he’s shown definite ability at least in preseason and practice the last few years; I would have thought he would have been given a solid chance in Training Camp to make the team as the fourth or fifth wideout. It’s unlikely that he will remain unsigned by someone long with the flashes that he’s shown in the past. I’m definitely not in agreement with letting Espy go, since he’s essentially as cheap as you can get for a WR and he has the possibility of being a decent player if he can keep from getting injured.

Kinda surprised to see Espy go but that injury is hard to come back from and he’s never really proven himself. Hopefully someone will pick him up and give him a chance in camp.
