Vinny Cerrato to Free Agents: We don’t want you!

Vinny Cerrato has admitted what we all had guessed - the Redskins are likely done pursuing free agents.  With DJ Hackett’s signing with Carolina, the team will turn their attention towards the draft to fill any needs that still remain.

The Redskins still have offers out to a couple of their own free agents in Derrick Frost and Reche Caldwell.  In both cases the players and team are playing a game of chicken with each other.  The players want to hold off signing the lowball Redskins’ offer for as long as possible in hopes that a bigger deal comes along, but they also want don’t want to wait too long and have the team move on leaving them without a job.  Considering Caldwell was signed during last season and Frost isn’t exactly an elite punter, there likely isn’t much interest coming from other teams.

In other Redskins news, the team has begun off-season activites.  New coach Jim Zorn has a much more relaxed policy towards attendence than the retired Joe Gibbs so some players aren’t working out with the team.  Its been reported that LaRon Landry, Shawn Springs and Phillip Daniels are among the players not in Washington.  Although some fans are likely griping, particularly over Landry’s absense, there isn’t much to be concerned about.  Landry is huge, Springs is a veteran who knows the routine and Daniels is actually training to be a ’strong man’, so there is no reason to think they’ll be anything but ready when training camp begins.
