Character Matters and Other Redskins Thoughts
Jump to Comments
Hey guess what? There is nothing happening at Redskin Park or anywhere in the Washington Redskins universe. Since nothing comes to mind that warrent a full column, here’s a few random thoughts on the Redskins and rest of the NFL.
- Signing or trading for guys like Chris Henry or Pac Man Jones would fill a lot of the Redskins current needs, but the front office needs to think long and hard about bringing in ‘trouble’ guys. For the most part the Redskins are a veteran bunch who you’d think would be able to handle difficult personalities, but do you really want to have a rookie coach and a young QB having to answer questions about potential distractions all year long? That fact makes me think twice about going after Chad Johnson as well. Johnson was always screaming at Carson Palmer, I’m not sure Campbell is ready to deal with a guy like that at this stage of his development.
- Tons of draft rumors swirling around of late. There was reports that Oklahoma WR Malcolm Kelly is coming into Washington for a visit, while Jason La Confora reports that the Redskins may go offensive line and may in fact be looking to trade up to take Branden Albert.
- What happened to The Curly R?
- You may have missed it, but blood was flowing like fine wine in the streets of the Redskins blogosphere last week after a blogwar erupted between this fine blog and the dastardly folks over at Hogs Haven. It all began when I neglected to mention Pete Schmitt as a viable fullback in a short piece about the re-signing of Nemo Broughton. Skins Patrol over at Hogs Haven, who is rumored to be somehow related to Schmitt, took great offense and the war began. Needless to say the battle for the back-up full back spot is heating up already and the battle lines have been drawn. Go Nemo.
- The Internet loves strong men. The announcement of Phillip Daniels going into training to become a strong man was linked to by Deadspin and drew about 10 times as many visitors to TRR as a normal off-season day.
- The off-season plan for this site is have something posted every weekday by 3pm. Obviously if something breaks on the weekend, we’ll be around but for the most part there will be updates everyday Monday to Friday. The easiest way to get each update is to subscibe via RSS or Email, just click the appropriate link at the top of the right hand sidebar and you’ll have the updates delivered to your inbox without ever having to visit the site.
- For you highrollers out there, someone over on Extremeskins is auctioning off a plaque that was made for Mike Sellers for being the Redskins special team player of the week back in 2005. All proceeds go to the Darrell Green’s Youth Life Foundation.
- Lastly, Chris Cooley has decided to once again follow in my footsteps and launch his own blog. It has a bunch of behind the scenes Redskins videos and other fun stuff. This marks the 3rd time Cooley as stolen my idea as I was the one who originally had the plan to date a couple of Redskins cheerleaders and who could forget my idea of landing multi-million dollar contract with Washington. I’m starting to understand what that character in Single White Female was going through in that movie.
Until tomorrow, Hail to the Redskins.

Wow it is slow in Redskins camp when we have to result in a war between blogs to keep things interesting. I will say this one (The Redskin Report) has gotten much better since the last few weeks of the season. Year before last it drew a lot of attention.
I will say this, its good to see the Redskins looking in mid rounds for a QB. JC needs to not just step up, but take complete command of this offense this season. No more he is new, and getting his feet wet, and I want my mommy stuff. I really became NOT a fan last year of his. He failed miserably in leadership and could not sharpen some of those intangible skills…like making quick reads. When Collins came in, it just confirmed what I was thinking. The question is how do our recievers become wide open with Collins and we have to continue to force plays with JC. Anybody have any insights let me know.
PS.. Totally agree on the Character issue. Who knows what Zorn can or cannot handle, and why to try to offset a path Gibbs was trying so hard to instill and needed the death of a teammate to finally make it come together.
