Redskins Wrap-up – May 7th
It’s Wednesday, so for no reason in particular, let’s do some news and notes:
- Antwaan Randle-El went under the knife earlier this week for arthroscopic surgery on his knee. It was to clean up some loose cartilage and it was sucked out of the knee. All reports were that it went well and he’s expected back in time for the next series of OTA’s.
- There were no serious injuries coming out of the weekend’s mini-camp. Kedric Golton was carted off on the field on Saturday, but it’s just a sprained ankle. Other players who missed time over the weekend include Sleepy Fred Davis, Reed Doughty – who was excused to be with his young child who’s still recovering from a kidney transplant, and Devin Thomas – excused for a family issue.
- The Dallas Cowboys descent into a sideshow continues with the announcement that they will appear on HBO’s Hard Knocks this year. This isn’t the first time the Cowboys have taken part in the series where they allow the show tons of access to training camp. With the Cowboys stockpiling malcontents, wannabe celebrities and criminals, it could be an entertaining show.
- Jim Zorn seems to be quickly winning over the media. There was a ton of chipper articles about Zorn and his work over the weekend. They’ll still be quick to throw him off the bus if the Redskins get off to a slow start, but for now it’s all hunky-dory.
- The Redskins announced they’ve re-signed cap guru Eric Schaffer. The Saints showed interest earlier this off-season in hiring Schaffer but were denied permission to interview him by the Redskins. He’s the guy who finagles the Redskins under the cap every year so he’s obviously a valuable guy in the front office.
- Best wishes to Daniel Snyder’s wife Tracy whose battling breast cancer. I’m sure I speak for all Redskins fans when I say we’re all pulling for her.
