Evidently the Redskins Suck Now

The Washington Redskins are coming off a playoff berth, basically returning the entire roster, added a few weapons through the draft and have some key veterans fully healthy after missing time last year.   So can someone explain to me why they are the typical choice for last place in the NFC East this year?

There was a change in the head coaching spot and I don’t think anyone is prepared to argue that Jim Zorn is a better coach that Joe Gibbs at this point, but the hiring of Zorn also brings an offense that should be able to produce many more points than Gibbs’ out of date offensive strategies.   Gregg Williams is gone, but the defensive staff is pretty well intact and all the players are returning.  I don’t see a huge downgrade there.

The Redskins made the playoffs last year despite losing a ton of players to injuries - two starting offensive lineman, the starting quarterback, and three starters on defense - McIntosh, Rogers and Taylor.  Add in the tragic murder of Sean Taylor and you can’t imagine a team having more adversity than the 2007-08 Washington Redskins.   This year is bound to be easier, it can’t get much worse.

So call me crazy but last place just doesn’t add up.  In the last three games of the regular season the Redskins beat both the Giants and Vikings handily on the road and then smoked Dallas at home.  They were closer to the best team in the division when last year ended than the worst, and there’s just no reason to think this year is going to be any different.

  • I don’t like that The Redskins are everyone’s cellar dweller pick in the NFC East but I can understand it. First off we have a new coach. I get a really good vibe from Zorn but the fact is that he hasn’t even been a coordinator in the NFL let alone a head coach. We have a young quarterback who has yet to prove that he can take us to the playoffs and we still have a few needs that were not addressed in the off season, namely a pass rusher. On top of it all we are in the toughest division in football. Would you pick us over the talent laden Cowboys? I wouldn’t. How about the defending Super Bowl champs the New York Football Giants. Nah not them either. So that leaves Philly. The Eagles finished up strong last season and a healthy Mcnabb could take them back to the playoffs. I think still think we are fielding a stronger team than the Eagles so I would put us 3rd in the NFC East. Face it, if it were the Cowboys in the position the Redskins were in (new coach, unproven quarterback, new offense) you would be slotting them in for last place in the division.

  • Amen Lee.

  • Two words: La Daniel

  • Because they suck. 4-12 this season, at best. And I’m a Redskins fan

The problem is partly the QB. They need to start Collins. He took them to the play-offs last year? A comment was made in the last pre-season game that they did not need to play Collins because they know what he can do. Treating him like he was a starting QB and did not want to get him hurt. Yet your going to play Campbell during the game, and he plays like crap? Can anyone else out there see this?

    Prediction #1: Zorn gets fired.
    Prediction #3: season 3-13.
I hope I’m wrong on both counts, but what i have seen from the team so far the future is dismal.

  • Too bad we can’t fire the egomaniacle owner and his little girl Cerrato. As long as they are in the picture…forget about a superbowl.
-who in their right mind drafts 3 receivers in the 2nd round when the o and d line need immediate attention? What a neandrethal.
oh, and will someone please give Danny “napolean complex” Shneider a tall pill so he can stop being such a self important little napolianic maniac. My skins have been hijacked by this clown.

  • Being one of the few Skins’ fans in NY state, I am constantly sickened week after week watching this team play. As I sit here on Nov. 30th watching yet another embarrasment against the Giants I think to myself…”its time for a change.” Change at quarteback, change at offensive coordinator, change at field goal kicker. Hell FIRE THE WHOLE DAMN TEAM! How is it possible that ANYONE can expect them to make the playoffs when they can’t score more than 29 points in a game ALL YEAR? The Giants AVERAGE 30! This year will end like last year in that the Skins’ will finish 9-7. But where it will differ is that they WILL NOT MAKE THE PLAYOFFS or win a super bowl. Not this year, not next year..and at this rate..NOT EVER! Well, at least the Jets have a shot. GO GANG GREEN!
    Signed,
A soon to be ex Skins fan.
