Devin Thomas Hurt (Updated)
After the Phillip Daniels injury quickly escalated from minor to season ending, everyone is on high alert for any injury at training camp. On that note when Devin Thomas was carted off the field during today’s practice everyone quickly suspected the worse. Initial reports say its a hamstring and not too serious, but we shall see.
LaRon Landry is also sitting out practice today with a hamstring injury. With Kareem Moore also injured, Shawn Springs has been taking reps at safety. Landry is expected back soon, while Moore is still recovering from off-season knee surgery. Chris Wilson also was dinged up today with a calf injury that isn’t serious. I’d expect most of these guys to sit out the pre-season opener on Sunday.
UPDATE: Thomas has been evaluated and we can all rest easy. He’ll be out 10-14 days with a hamstring injury. Consider Thomas is generally thought to be battling with Malcolm Kelly for the 3rd wide-out position this injury could put him behind the 8-ball in that competition.

Injuries are part of life, and at THIS point, we can afford to lose Devin Thomas for a while (Devin Thomas, however, cannot afford to lose the time).
I’m much more concerned with the injuries to Smoot, Landry, and Portis. Yes, I know Smoot was back on the field the very next day, but we do not have enough talent deep on the roster to continue to lose quality starters; no team does. We’re already out one of our starters (granted, he’s been replaced with a very good player) for the season, and are down two starters who may or may not be ready for the Giants. And then of course, we have never been able to fill the loss of #21. So, we’re out 4 of our starting Defense, one for the year, one Permanent, and now are having problems with Smoot (our #3 Corner) and Landry (the #1 Safety). That’s a lot of injuries in the defensive backfield.
