Cutdown Day: Frost, Wade and Mason Dropped

The NFL Network has reported that the Redskins have released P Derrick Frost, OT Todd Wade and RB Marcus Mason.  There are many more cuts to come, but these are the only three that have been reported anywhere as of 3pm.

Frost has been the Redskins punter for the past few season and will be replaced by 6th round draft choice Durant Brooks.  Todd Wade was acquired last off-season to battle for the starting offensive guard position (he was a tackle for all of his career previous to this).  He was completely ineffective and the Redskins were forced to trade for Pete Kendall.  He then became the starter at right tackle when Jon Jansen went down with an injury but was eventually replaced by undrafted rookie Stephon Heyer by season’s end.

Marcus Mason has been the star of the past two pre-seasons for the Redskins but couldn’t crack the very deep backfield.  This play this year tailed off as he faced more talented defenders but his strong overall performance may land him a job with another NFL team.  If he is not picked up by anyone he remains eligible for the practice squad.

More cuts when they come in.

  • tough to see mason cut, my guess is another team will be acquiring his services. As for frosty, I guess his lucky bounces stop here.

  • how does james trash always make the team? he is never open and never catches a pass. big risk with the punter, can he hold?

  • My question is how McMullen makes the team. He catches the ball! Made catches Santana or Antwan dream about. In traffic, getting open, pulling balls down, blocking! You have two rookies that are having problems and give him up? I mean, how much talent do you actually need on the kick off team?
